Competition

Intraspecific competition is competition between members of the same species.

Example: Birds-Birds: Competition between birds of any species is continuously occurring. Competition for habitat is what I think is the main one. With all the deforestation in Tropical Rainforests it would be hard for a bird to find a tree which is perfect for nesting or laying its eggs.

Interspecific competition is competition that occurs between different species.

Example: Striped Marsh Frog-Black Rhino: These are just some of the common and endangered animals in competition. While the Striped Marsh Frog has already established a large population the Black Rhino is in competition to establish a large population.

Title.

Biome: Tropical Rainforest

Mutualism:Ant-fungus. One of the most common mutualisms in a tropical rainforest is ants and fungi. The ants protect the fungi while the fungus provides nutrients for the ants.

Parasitism: Termites-Trees. The termites eat away at the tree getting the benefit of food and shelter. The tree is harmed as it is being eaten.

Commensalism: Birds-Trees. The bird benefits from the tree by gaining shelter for its nest. The tree neither gets harmed nor benefited.

Objective 4.To identify various mutualistic relationships within the ecosystem.

Ant-fungus. One of the most common mutualisms in a tropical rainforest is ants and fungi. The ants protect the fungi while the fungus provides nutrients for the ants.
Lichen-Fungi. Fungi creates a structure which protects the Lichen (algae) fro m drying out. In return the Lichen excretes a carbohydrate which the fungus uses for food.
Silvery Gibbons-Dipterocarp. Silvery Gibbons spend practically their whole life living in the canopies of these Dipterocarp trees depending on them for shelter and food.
